I do not make political posts, and I will not start today. It is my job to lead our people to think through all situations with Biblical clarity. I was sickened as I watched the hearings yesterday. In fact, I made myself watch certain parts because I needed to see for myself instead of what others are telling me. While I watched, I felt sin-stained…My sin and the sins of the world became so apparent. The focus for Sunday morning is “Sin Leads to Pain” as we look at Genesis 3. Sin always leads to pain…

I keep coming back to

Ephesians 6:11-12 – Put on the whole armor of God what you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

I want to have eyes that look past what is flesh and blood – eyes that see the true enemy at work. Eyes that realize there is more to a situation than what my natural eyes can see. No matter how you see this – a lady who is speaking truth or an innocent man who is undergoing attacks from a politically charged divisive country – there is more. This nomination (whether you believe it to be good or bad) means the Supreme Court has a changing tide in one of the most widely debated topics in our land – abortion. The enemy is fighting hard in some way for Roe vs. Wade to be upheld. This battle is manifesting itself in so many arenas – not just inside the Senate meetings.

The Bible is clear that every life bears the image of God – Genesis 1-2. Every life matters, and I wonder if the blood of all the image bearers who have been killed are crying out for vindication, and the enemy seeks to silence the cries of babies whose lives were “legally” ended.

This spectacle is much larger than Kavanaugh, Ford and Senate hearings.

May we put on the full armor of God as we seek to make much of Him in a time and land where the enemy is “roaming around like a roaring lion” – 1 Peter 5:8.
